Variables

Global Office Find and Replace software has a concept of Variables. These Variables will be changed often, so check back here to see the list of new ones.

Note that this option must be “armed” to work: turn on “Use Constants / Variables” in the Advanced Settings. This option is not turned on by default. See Settings here.

The concept is that you can use any of the variables below in your find replace operations (works with ANY find replace operation including text and document properties) to get values in your document.

For example, say you wanted to put the file name of the document into the document text, you can do that using variables.

These variables are to be used in the text to replace field of your operation OR in the document properties quick update screen is also possible.

Type a variable exactly as shown, in upper case.

Current variables are:

Variable Value
[[$THISDIRFILENAME]] Retrieves the full file name including directory
[[$THISFILENAME]] Retrieves file name only, no directory information
[[$THISDIR]] Retrieves the directory
[[$UTCDATETIME]] Gets the current UTC date and time
[[$MONTHNAME]] Gets month name from the current date such as January, February etc.
[[$MONTHNAMEABBR]] Gets month name abbreviation such as Jan for January, Feb for February, etc.
[[$CURRENTYEAR]] Gets the year of the current date, such as 2021
[[$CURRENTDAY]] Gets the number of the current date such as 1 for the 1st
[[$CURRENTMONTH]] Gets the current month in numerical format
[[$CURRENTDAYOFWEEK]] Gets the current day of week, such as Monday, Tuesday, etc.
